STEP ONE: Protect yourself. Call the Police.


The police may be able to make an arrest for the crime
committed against you. Be sure to get the police report;
this will be important to secure additional help.


STEP TWO: Seek medical attention for injuries.


If you are injured as a victim of crime, be sure to seek
medical attention. Keep any medical bills that resulted
from treatment.


STEP THREE: Get help to meet financial
obligations caused by crime.


If  crime left a financial or medical gap, find out if you are eligible for help from Georgia’s Victim Compensation Program. You will need the police report and any medical bills to complete the application for financial assistance.


STEP FOUR: Come to court.


If the police are able to make an arrest, come to court on the date provided to you.
